What We Believe

These statements of faith will help you know what to expect to hear taught at Hague Baptist Church.

Baptist faith & message 2000

From the times of the early church all the way up to today Christians have set out their doctrinal beliefs in brief, definitive statements. Many of these have been called creeds and confessions and are today often referred to as statements of faith. Statements like these have always been used by Christians in order to identify people of shared biblical convictions with which to partner for the sake of the spread of the gospel.

One such modern statement of faith is the Baptist Faith & Message 2000 which we take as our statement of faith and require all those who become members of Hague Baptist to affirm. It can be read here: Baptist Faith & Message 2000.

the 1689 Baptist confession of faith (second london baptist confession)

In addition to the BFM 2000 we are in substantive agreement with The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith. Due to the fact that these two statements of faith were written at such different times within church history they both have unique and helpful emphases. Both statements are more specific than the other in certain areas of faith and practice based on what issues were being addressed in the life of the church during the time of its writing. For this reason we believe that both of these statements of faith are helpful to us in regards to clearly defining and living out our convictions today while remaining rooted in the historic doctrines of our faith. We do not require members to affirm the 1689 Confession but recognize that we will use it as a clarifying and authoritative statement of faith for teaching and practice in complement to the BFM 2000. The 1689 Baptist Confession can be read here: 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith.
